The Miami Design Preservation League is excited to announce the 37th year of Miami Beach Art Deco Festival 2014! This year's theme is "Art Deco at Play."
The Art Deco Era was especially magical for children! Shirley Temple danced and sang her way into our hearts. Mickey Mouse debuted as Steamboat Willie, and Yo-Yos made their way to America. The 1930's saw the birth of longtime classic board games such as Scrabble and Monopoly, and Mahjong and Domino tiles were made of the new, unbreakable plastic called Bakelite. Bath hour was never the same when children claimed the Rubber Duck as their favorite bath toy. Superman leaped his first building in a single bound and became part of America's best pop culture icons. Future architects used brand new Legos and Lincoln Logs to design and build their first structural creations.
With that in mind this year's festival have created the Art Deco Playground where children can enjoy music, films, interactive games, art and crafts while having fun and learning a bit of history.
Of course for this year's festival young and old alike will be able to enjoy the vintage toy exhibit, antique car show, fashion shows, antiques and vintage shops.
